A podiatrist or other trained healthcare professional will evaluate your feet based on:
- Family history of foot problems,
- Medical history, including arthritis, diabetes, or other conditions
- Information about your foot problem, including severity, when it began, how long it has lasted
- Lifestyle and physical activities
- Medications
- A physical exam (blood circulation, skin condition, nerve function, bone structure)
- Ability to stand, walk, and balance
- X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans if necessary
- Doppler test (to check blood flow)
- Tuning fork test to check for nerve sensitivity
