The first step in getting a diagnosis is telling your healthcare provider that you may have a hearing problem.
- The healthcare professional will find out whether you have too much wax, infection, or other causes of hearing loss.
- This professional may suggest seeing an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, throat doctor) or audiologist for more evaluation or treatment. Audiologists test hearing and can help treat hearing loss.
A yearly screening for hearing loss is important and part of Medicare’s annual wellness exam. Medicare also covers payment for an audiologist’s exam if a physician orders it.
